Two meetings this month. On June 7 the Black Lung Ultra folks presented their plans for an ultra marathon in summer 2024. On June 19 we hosted Clearwater County Council for a tour of the area, followed by a meet & greet with the partners in the afternoon.

On June 7 we had the pleasure of welcoming Nolan West, Brandon Armet and Mark Morrish from Black Lung Ultra. The group introduced their plans to host an ultra marathon in the Nordegg area next summer (2024). The purpose of the meeting was to gather feedback from our partners and the Nordegg community regarding the plan.

One of the main points of the discussion centered around the dates. A point that was raised was that anytime in July or August would prove difficult given the already stressed resources in terms of lodging, food and staffing during those very busy months. The shoulder seasons of spring and fall appear to be much better options, and would be much more beneficial to the community. We look forward to supporting Black Lung Ultra with this exciting project.

On June 19 we hosted Clearwater County Council on a tour of the Nordegg & Abraham Lake area. Despite the rain and cold temperatures, it was an enjoyable time and an opportunity to raise some important questions. Some of the subjects that were addressed were speed reductions on Highway 11 by Nordegg and along Abraham Lake, the staff housing situation, and how we can ensure optimal collaboration between Explore Nordegg and Clearwater County. The tour included stops at Expanse Cottages and Rendered Earth Studio, showcasing some of the amazing work our partners do. The tour was followed by a Meet & Greet with Explore Nordegg partners in the newly redesigned Nordegg Discovery Centre.
